Can Chihuahuas Cure take away asthma

The belief that a Chihuahua can "take away" asthma from its owner is still held by some, however medical experts reject the idea that the folk remedy can cure asthma.

For many years, the idea that Chihuahuas can cure asthma has been passed around. Citing personal experience or hearsay from someone else, supporters of this idea believe that the toy breed dog really can take away asthma from its owner. They may claim that the dog should sleep on the chest of the asthmatic person to somehow take in the asthma itself.

Short-haired Chihuahuas may be considered somewhat more hypoallergenic than many dog breeds but the scientific and medical community regards the loss of asthma symptoms in the presence of a Chihuahua as purely coincidental or psychosomatic. In fact, in some cases, some dogs and other pets may even bring on asthma symptoms such as shortness of breath and wheezing.
Origin of Chihuahua as an Asthma Cure
chloasma treatment The most effective melasma trtmnt. View our before and after pictures. Melasma.celibre.comMedications For Fibromyalgia Answers to your questions about Fibromyalgia & other pain disorders www.ivillage.comThe origin of this folk remedy is not clear but several theories can be considered. Although asthma treatment includes medications and other measures, at present, the medical world has no cure for the respiratory disease. The majority of asthma cases are successfully managed but some severe asthmatics, in their search for relief, may be willing to accept, and pass on, unorthodox ideas. At any rate, the folk remedy has been around for many years.
One rumor has it that the superstition may be somehow connected with the Aztecs. In history, Chihuahuas were quite popular with the Aztecs who held the belief that the dog would take on the sins of a dead person and guide him through death to afterlife.

Perhaps seeming to add support to the asthma-cure belief, Chihuahuas sometimes have respiratory problems and may make wheezing sounds similar to asthmatics. Since asthma seems to be most prevalent in children who often lose their asthma symptoms as they mature, it may be easy for some to conclude that the coincidental Chihuahua in the household “took away” the asthma from the child.
Stress and Asthma

Another theory may be that acquiring a faithful companion like the Chihuahua may ease stress and tension in the life of the asthma sufferer which in some cases may relieve asthma symptoms. Dogs and other pets have certainly been proven to lower blood pressure and hasten healing in some illnesses.
Managing Asthma

While a Chihuahua can be a good choice as a pet and loyal friend, the best choice of asthma treatment, according to the Mayo Clinic, is under the care of a physician, generally with long-term control medications, quick-relief medications, possible allergy treatment, and avoidance of bronchial inflammation triggers.

Can We stop the Confusion and Friction in our lives

We all have experiences that bring friction into our life. We meet conditions or we associate with people who irritate us. But when we learn to think of personalities as a universal idea, an idea that can neither be destroyed, then the irritation ceases to annoy and upset us. The musicians in a great orchestra, in all probability annoy each other at many times and in many ways. But does that cause them to spoil a performance by not doing their best work? They cannot afford to let petty likes or dislikes separate them from the unisom which must come to the front when they play. Neither can we afford to live without a sense of harmony in all of our affairs. The problems we accept in our dailey lives are as devasting to happiness and progress as being out of tune is to a musical masterpiece. Sometimes we lose ourselves in confusion. We cannot see our way through to the right adjustments, the adjustment which we desire. So we begin to think that if it is impossible to change the conditions to our liking. When that is true, let us turn our thoughts to simple things in life that we enjoy, so that the friction may cease.

They're Better Than the "Hair of the Dog that Bit You!"

So, you've had a few too many alcoholic drinks and you're feeling kind of woozy. That's because, once it's consumed, alcohol is quickly dispersed into a person's bloodstream. It then travels throughout the entire body. Drinking too much alcohol can cause slurred speech, blurry vision, difficulty in walking, slow reactions, impaired judgment, and many other side effects. Now, you need homemade cures for a hangover.

One of the most popular cures for a hangover is to drink hot, black, caffeinated coffee. The caffeine will actually help dull a pounding headache. It will also rev up your body and work with the alcohol to further dehydrate it. Instead of drinking black coffee for your hangover, try drinking a large glass of fruit juice instead. The sugar content in fruit juice will aid in your body's attempt to get rid of the alcohol. Fruit drinks also contain Vitamin C. Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant that will also do the same job.

Since alcohol actually dehydrates your body, one of the best homemade cures for a hangover is to simply drink plenty of water. Water will not, as it's believed, make you feel drunk again. Instead, water will rehydrate your body and help flush the alcohol and other toxins out of your system faster.

Some people recommend drinking Gatorade(TM) or Pedialyte(TM) instead of plain water. The Gatorade contains sodium which will help get your body hydrated again. Pedialyte contains electrolytes. Your body needs electrolytes in order to maintain cell impulses.

If your stomach can tolerate it, another of the most efficient homemade cures for a hangover is to eat a good, healthy meal. Lean steak, eggs, toast, and hash browns can help cure the typical hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, that drinking too much alcohol can cause. A good meal can also help replenish valuable vitamins and minerals that your body needs.

Stay away from fatty or fried foods. They can easily upset your already-nauseated stomach. Not only that, but your liver is already trying to rid your body of the alcohol. It doesn't need fatty or fried foods to deal with on top of that. Source:  Kassidy Emmerson

Colo. man convicted of shooting himself in groin

May 09, 2010 11:58 AM EDT

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (AP) — A Colorado man who claimed he was trying to defend himself from a mugger when he shot himself in the groin has been convicted of illegal discharge of a firearm. Investigators said there was no evidence to substantiate David Leroy Blurton's self-defense claim and jurors convicted the 50-year-old on Wednesday. The shooting happened at the parking lot of a grocery store in Dillon, Colo., on May 2009. Prosecutors say Blurton had been drinking.

Jurors also convicted Blurton of "prohibited use of a weapon — drunk with a gun" and reckless endangerment. Prosecutors said they will request that Blurton be sentenced to probation.

Blurton maintained that someone hit him in the back of the head and he was trying to defend himself.

Losing Fat Stomach

You may wonder, as to what makes losing weight around the stomach a so much more cumbersome task, than most other parts of the body! The answer is simple, the body stores unutilized energy synthesized from fats for future use. Men have a tendency to store this fat in the abdominal region and women around the hips and buttocks. If this energy is not utilized, it accumulates and develops into a paunch, in the case of men and broadened hips and buttocks in women.

The best way of getting rid of the fat around the stomach is by changing over to a healthy lifestyle. The following suggestions would help you achieve this:

The body synthesizes energy from fat. However, when fat is consumed in excess, it gets stored for future use. The best way of getting rid of fat around the stomach is to restrict the intake of fat and utilize the fat that is already present in the body. You can achieve this by reducing your intake of red meats and, by switching from saturated oils to healthier oils like extra virgin olive oil. This will help you bring down the fat levels in your dietary intake considerably.

The next step is to eat light food at regular intervals. This means that you will need to eat 6 times a day, instead of the normal 3 times a day routine. However, when you eat 6 times a day the quantity of servings should be a lot less. This will help the body digest the food well and utilize the energy produced more effectively.

Drinking plenty of water will also speed up the metabolism rate of your body. You should ideally consume at least 3 liters of water everyday.

Lastly, the most important part in losing weight is burning fat. Exercising or playing some kind of outdoor sport, will help you burn fat like no other. Aerobics and yoga are also known to be helpful in this regard. However, if you suffer from an injury, you could take up to swimming or brisk walking, which are also, extremely effective methods of burning fat.

Apart form the above suggestions, avoid sleeping just after meals. It would be highly beneficial to go out on a short walk after any major meal.

Swine Flu: How to prepare for the second Wave

Swine flu: how to prepare for the second wave The Influenza A (H1N1) "swine flu" virus that first appeared in Mexico in May has spread through most western countries. Health authorities now expect a second wave to sweep across the world this coming autumn. Here's what you need to know. By FRANCE 24 (text)

Influenza A (H1N1) is now so widespread that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has stopped counting the number of cases on a country by country basis. The danger now is that the virus could mutate into a deadlier strain, according to the UN, which has warned of a second wave of the virus in the northern hemisphere and in tropical regions and a much higher number of infections.

Symptoms
For the moment the symptoms are fairly mild and the same as those of seasonal flu, affecting the respiratory system (coughing and difficulty breathing) and causing high temperature, fatigue and muscle pain. Many may catch the virus without actually showing any of the symptoms.

Vulnerable groups
Pregnant women, especially in the later stages of pregnancy, are particularly vulnerable and any fever with associated respiratory problems should be considered a medical emergency.
Children, the chronically ill and health workers, who are more exposed to the virus, are also more vulnerable.
The elderly are less at risk because of a similar virus that swept the world in 1948-1950.
Vaccines
The Chinese government has recently approved production of a vaccine made by Sinovac China. New vaccines may cause unexpected side effects and will be closely monitored. The French medicines agency (AFSSAPS) has said it will publish a website for people to report these side effects.
The WHO also recommends Tamiflu, which can be used as a preventive in case of exposure to the virus. Manufacturers Roche had a stock of 100 million courses of the drug in March in preparation of a new influenza outbreak. As of December the company plans to increase its stock by 33 million per month or 400 million per year.
Prevention
The best way to avoid getting the virus is to pay attention to personal hygiene and to use common sense. Washing hands regularly with soap or with alcohol-based cleansers, using handkerchiefs for coughs and sneezes and making sure homes are well ventilated are the best means to control the spread of the virus.
For more information
Many health ministries and NGOs have published advice on their websites. These include the WHO and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
The Internet has a huge amount of information, including Google Maps which can show the location of H1N1 cases by country. Google has also launched Google Flu Trends to follow flu epidemics, including the current one.
Other diverse initiatives around Influenza A (H1N1)
- Apple has launched an iPhone application to track real-time development of global disease pandemics, including Influenza A(H1N1). Called, "Outbreak Near Me", it was developed by researchers at Children's Hospital Boston and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), with the support of Google.org, the philanthropic arm of the Internet giant.
- Some sites have games based on the spread of global pandemics.
- The Archbishop of Naples has forbidden the faithful from kissing a vial said to contain the blood of St Januarius in a ritual that takes place every year on September 19 in order to limit the spread of infections.
- The US department of health has organised a competition to find the most effective way of warning people about the virus. Among the seven finalists is Dr Clarke, rapping about the risks.

Latinos are the most stressed-out adults in the nation!

Latinos Are Most Stressed!

I was shocked to read a new survey just out by The American Psychological Association stating that the most stressed out population in the nation are Latinos.
Marisa Treviño of “Hispanic Trending” wrote a very informative article about the new study in which she states:
“The American Psychological Association (APA) released their annual Stress in America survey and the findings are not good for Latino adults
Of all adults, Latinos are recorded as experiencing the highest levels of stress. Fifty percent of Latino adults reported to survey finders that stress has increased in their lives versus last year when only 44% reported having stress — the national average is 42%.
And just what are Latinos stressing out about more than blacks and Anglos?

Depressed and Pregnant? Flu Shot May Be Needed

Symptoms of seasonal flu could be severe in this group of women, study finds.
(HealthDay News) -- Pregnant women who are depressed may suffer severe symptoms if they catch seasonal flu, a new study suggests.
Ohio State University researchers assessed depressive symptoms and took blood samples from 22 pregnant women before they received a seasonal flu shot. Those with significant symptoms of depression had a stronger inflammatory response to the flu shot than the other women.

This finding suggests that a depressed pregnant woman's immune system doesn't function normally, which means they may experience more serious symptoms if they're infected with seasonal flu.
"Inflammatory responses to vaccination do no harm, are mild, and typically go away within a few days. But an extended inflammatory response to vaccination, such as the one seen in women with the most depressive symptoms, isn't expected, and it serves as a way to estimate how somebody might respond to an actual infection or illness," lead author Lisa Christian, an assistant professor of psychiatry, said in a university news release.
The researchers said their study shows the need for pregnant women to get seasonal flu shots. The study was published online in advance of publication in the November print issue of the journal Brain, Behavior, and Immunity.

Public health groups advise pregnant women to get seasonal flu shots, but only 12 percent to 13 percent of them have done so in recent years, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

"It will be interesting to see how that might change this year," in light of CDC recommendations that pregnant women receive both seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccinations, Christian said.

Decorate cookies for Halloween -Old Folks remedies

Try these easy Halloween cookie tips for making cookie bats, cats, spiders, pumpkins and other favorites for your trick-or-treaters.
Decorated Halloween cookies are super for classroom parties, Halloween get-togethers, costume parties or even your own Halloween party menu.
Decorating Halloween Cookies: Super-Basic Trick or Treat Cookies
Before you can begin decorating your Halloween cookies, of course, you must bake them. You might choose to make fancy Halloween cut-out cookies in holiday shapes (such as bats, cats, pumpkins or other Halloween objects) or simple round ones.
For a phenomenally easy cheater's basic sugar cookie recipe, read "Sugar Cookie Recipes: The Simple and Super-Simple Way" in a new online window.

Before you begin decorating, be sure to bake your Halloween cookies thoroughly and allow them to cool completely.

Decorating Halloween Cookies: Basic Bats

The simplest round sugar cookies can become batty in a flash. The easiest way to decorate Halloween bat cookies is to create a basic bat stencil. Grab a sheet of plain clean paper. Fold it in half, and cut out a basic bat outline. Be sure to make arcs at the top.

Unsure how to create a bat shape? Look at free online clip-art bats at sites like Classroom Clip-art, Clip-Art Kaboose or Webweaver's Clip-Art. Download your choice of clip-art, resize it to fit your cookies and cut it out to make your stencil.

Halloween clip-art sites offer plenty of other designs, besides bat, so you can take your pick for stencil-making and Halloween cookie decorating.

Begin decorating your baked and cooled Halloween cookies by glazing them with a clear or white icing. Let cookies stand until glaze has nearly hardened.

Officials: Food stamps swapped for booze, Viagra

Readers: What will people think of next? Some people are just plain stupid exchanging their food stamps for Viagra so they can get a hard on. Instead of thinking with the head they have on their shoulders these fols are thinking with their other head. Stuf like this makes me so mad because their are alot of people who need and can use these food stamps to buy food  to nourish thheir bodies and feed their kids. I hope these dirty minded fools  go to jail and never are allowed to get food stamps again.
DETROIT - Viagra and pornography are not staples on the government's food stamp list. But authorities say a Detroit liquor store supplied them during a series of illegal deals.
Federal prosecutors filed fraud charges this week against three people who worked at Jefferson's Liquor Palace.
The alleged scheme worked this way: Food stamp recipients would get cash from the store in exchange for swiping larger amounts off their electronic cards. The store would then be reimbursed by the U.S. Agriculture Department.
And in some transactions, the government says the store provided informants Viagra, liquor and porn in exchange for swiping about $2,000 off food stamp cards.
The government says fraud at the store topped $130,000 over 2 1/2 years. The store is closed.

Vampires vow till death do us part at Ohio wedding

COLUMBIA STATION, Ohio - An Ohio bride and ghoul have vowed to love each other and haunt and howl at the moon together at a Halloween-themed wedding. Sixty-one-year-old Jack Holsinger and 44-year-old Connie Spitznagel were both made up as pale-faced vampires for their scare-emoney Saturday night at a haunted house near Cleveland. The two chose the location because it's operated by the same people who own a campground where the couple met.

Holsinger arrived in a coffin inside a hearse, and the coffin was carried to the altar by six pallbearers. Minister Greg Kopp was dressed as Jason in the "Friday the 13th" movies. After the vows were exchanged, he ordered Holsinger not to kiss his new bride but instead to bite her on the neck.

US college ready for flesh-eating zombie attack

What a better story for Halloween then this one. I hope you all find it interesting and Happy Halloween. Be Safe and be sure to check your kids candies before they eat it...

GAINESVILLE, Florida - No one expects a zombie apocalypse. But the University of Florida is making sure officials are ready for a night of the living dead, just in case.

The school has a plan for responding to the undead on its Web site among outlines for dealing with hurricanes and pandemics.

The exercise lays out how university officials would respond to attacks by "flesh-eating, apparently life impaired individuals." It notes that a zombie outbreak might include "documentation of lots of strange moaning."
A University of Florida spokesman says the exercise was written by an employee at the school's academic technology office to "add a little bit of levity" to disaster preparation discussions.

Home Remedy for Poor Circulation of the Legs- Horse Chestnut

Maureen from Buffalo Grove, IL writes: "I've suffered with poor circulation of the legs for a few years now. Standing for short periods of time left my legs feeling tired and achy. My legs had a heavy feeling when walking, too. Worse, any pressure applied to my ankle area resulted in pain. My doctor put his hands around them to see if I was retaining fluid and I could have cried from the pain. After doing research online, I started taking 900 mgs of horse chestnut and 350 mgs of pycnogenol each day. It's been only four weeks, but the difference has been amazing. My legs feel lighter, no more pain near the ankles, no more fatigue when standing for long periods. There have been medical studies on this, which is why I decided to try it myself. I highly recommend taking these supplements at these doses each day for improved circulation of the legs."

Also Apple Cider Vinegar is a good old folks remedey for swollen legs: "Edema, Poor Circulation:
This was also submitted from Jodi from La Quinta Ca.on another site that I know will be of interest to those who suffer with this problem. She wrote:
I recently was told by my Naturopath to begin 1Tbsp of ACV before every meal. One of my health complaints has been very swollen ankles ( even legs sometimes) and cold pale feet. It has been a week and among other things, my ankles are very skinny, my feet now have color again and my overall circulation has improved. I also have dropped 5 pounds- but I'm also following the Elmination Diet to identify allergies so I can't completely credit that to the ACV. My whole body seems to have been de-bloated. I notice that after drinking the ACV my appetite wanes, so I do eat less and can definitely feel my food digesting.

One way to know if you are digesting food properly or not is to check your stools. Do you recognize your meals? If you can identify what's there- you are not digesting your food.

I'm thrilled with the results so far and am anxious to see what else happens from my new dosing."

Old Folks Remedies about Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar, that wonderful old-timers home remedy, cures more ailments than any other folk remedy -- we're convinced! From the extensive feedback we've received over the past 8 years, the reported cures from drinking Apple Cider Vinegar are numerous. They include cures for allergies (including pet, food and environmental), sinus infections, acne, high cholesterol, flu, chronic fatigue, candida, acid reflux, sore throats, contact dermatitis, arthritis, and gout. One reader reported that a shot of ACV saved him from going to the emergency room for heart pain. Apple Cider Vinegar also breaks down fat and is widely used to lose weight. It has also been reported that a daily dose of apple cider vinegar in water has high blood pressure under control in two weeks!
If you can get over the taste of apple cider vinegar, you will find it one of the most important natural remedies in healing the body. As a wonderful side effect of drinking apple cider vinegar every day, we've discovered that it brings a healthy, rosy glow to one's complexion! This is great news if you suffer from a pale countenance.
DISCLAIMEROur readers offer information and opinions, not as a substitute for professional medical prevention, diagnosis, or treatment. Please consult with your physician, pharmacist, or health care provider before taking any home remedies or supplements or following any treatment suggested by anyone on this site. Only your health care provider, personal physician, or pharmacist can provide you with advice on what is safe and effective for your unique needs or diagnose your particular medical history. But several tho have claimed that it has worked for them.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR DOSAGES AND RECIPES

As you know, Earth Clinic has recommended the standard 2 teaspoons in 8 oz of water 3x a day for years now. For more severe conditions, we recommended 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in 8 oz of water 3x a day. We now think that less vinegar, more water is an optimal way of taking apple cider vinegar daily unless you are treating an acute condition like acid reflux, cough, bronchitis, or sore throat (in which case the stronger concoction of 2 TBS ACV to 8 OZ of water 3x a day recipe is suggested).

For daily maintenance, weight loss and pH balancing, we now suggest the following:

2 teaspoons of organic apple cider vinegar
16 ounces of water
Sip, don't chug!

We suggest 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in 16 ounces of water that you'll sip throughout the day, rather than drinking the whole concoction at once 3 times a day. You will be keeping your pH in a constant, alkalized state by sipping this highly diluted dosage. Usually 1-2 tall glasses of the concoction are all you'll need each day.

If you drink a lot of water throughout the day, consider adding just a splash of apple cider vinegar to your glass/container each time you fill it up, rather than drinking the one, 16 oz glass of acv and water mentioned above.

For the record, we are not big fans of adding baking soda to apple cider vinegar, nor are we fans of adding any kind of sweetener to the acv/water solution. The baking soda works great for some people, but causes severe side effects in others, so be sure to think about it before you try this, I did not like the Baking SOda. TO each his own taste.. Hope this will be of help.

Also, we know the Bragg brand is the most popular apple cider vinegar on the market, but we've had just as good results using Whole Foods' organic and Trader Joe's organic apple cider vinegar.
