Weird and Bizarre Torture Methods

In Medieval times, they sought out ways to cut back on crime. Instead of letting the criminals sit in a jail cell, like today, they would use different torture devices. These devices came in all shapes and sizes and were meant to scare other would be criminals into not doing the crimes committed by the person being tortured. Let’s check these weird torture methods

.The Brazen BullThis device was designed in Greece by Perillos of Athens. He was a brass founder and he cast the shape of a hollow bull with a door on the side. This condemned person was shut in the bull. There was a fire lit underneath the device and because it was brass it became yellow hot, which would cause the person to roast to death. It was configured with tubes and stops, so when the person was screaming it would sound like the bull was raging.

The Breaking WheelThis wheel of torture was used to kill criminals and it did that very slowly. This device was a large wagon wheel. The criminal would be tied to the wheel, where the punisher would proceed to use a hammer to break the bones of the other person. Once that was completed, they were left there to die and even the birds would peck at their flesh until death was complete.

The RackThis device is an oblong rectangle with a wooden frame. It was raised from the ground with a roller either at one end or at both ends. One end had a fixed bar, where the feet were locked onto it, and the other end had a moveable bar, where the hands were tied to it. It had a lever that was used as the interrogation progressed. It was on a lever and pulley system that would eventually cause the joints of the person being tortured to dislocate and then separate. Eventually, the muscle fibers userbin, ligaments, and cartilage would break separating the limbs from the body of the condemned.

I did.                                                                                                                                                             Woman with .708 blood-alcohol level pleads guilty
STURGIS, S.D. (AP) — A South Dakota woman who prosecutors say had a blood-alcohol level almost nine times the legal driving limit has pleaded guilty to two drunken driving charges. Authorities said 45-year-old Marguerite Engle was arrested Dec. 1 when she was found passed out behind the wheel of a stolen delivery van along Interstate 90, with a blood alcohol level at 0.708. The legal limit in South Dakota is 0.08. Officials have said Engle's blood alcohol level likely is a record for the state.
She was arrested again in late December, with a blood alcohol level more than 3 1/2 times the legal limit.
Engle faces up to two years in jail when she is sentenced on Feb. 23. In exchange for her guilty pleas, prosecutors have agreed not to pursue other charges, including receiving stolen property and drug possession.

Old Folks Remedies on Carpal tunnel syndrome

150 MG od Vitamin B-6

suggested by Barbara
I had a burning, numbing sensation in my right hand, and was sent to a specialist who told me to use 150 MG of B-6 for 3 weeks and give him a call and let him know how I was doing. I called him and told him that some of the pain and numbness was gone, and he told me to cut back to 100 MG, and that I was going to get better. That was 18 years ago, and thank the Lord I have been pain free for that many years

Japanese mint oil

suggested by Riki
I am a massage therapist and one of my common tools is Japanese mint oil (alot of therapists will sell this). Apply to the wrist in the morning and cover with a warm wet compress for 5 minutes to loosen the area, and apply to the wrist and cover with a cold wet compress in the eveining to alleviate inflamation. I have carpal tunnel from work, and this works like a char

Carpal Tunnel

suggested by Elizabeth
Is caused by damage or irritation to the vertebrae of the neck and top thoracics. Find someone who can alleviate these and it will disappear as if by magic. The top thoracics are the most difficult to adjust because they are usually calcified and resistant to movement. Deep massage or a decalcification treatment would help also.

Bowling brace, Carpel Tunel

suggested by Julie
Wear a bowling brace to protect when sleeping and when doing intensive or heavy work and take B6 (with B complex, of course, never take a single B without B complex also.) Some prefer a medical brace...see what works best for you. Having the stabillizing plate on the top of your wrist is easier to work with...some bowling braces have a plate on the top and bottom in pockets so one or the other can be removed
try this if you begin noticing sympoms

suggested by Nicole
I am a medical student and we were taught about this in our diseases class. My teahcher said that if you begin to get the symptoms of carple tunnel or just some wrist pain, try to watch how you sleep. If you sleep with your wrists tucked in towards you or bent in any way, this could also cause carple tunnel. this is easily corrected if you pay attention to how you position your wrists. try to keep them straight, not bent in anyway, even if bent is more comfortable. this reduces the strain on your wrist and will help you to avoid carple tunnel. try to keep your wrist straight most of the time, do not let them be bent for long periods, like the waitress did by carrying trays on her hand with her one hand. this is not only the pressure from her wrist being bend too long repeatedly, but the wait of all the food and stuff on her trays.Hope this helps!

i started taking glucosamine chondroitin, which is a joint lubriant. This helped me a lot. I also started wearing a magnetic bracelet. What a difference..try it...

An Injury that almost destroyed my life...

suggested by Adriena
I had/have carpal tunnel syndrom. This first began in my left hand and progressed to my left elbow (giving me tennis elbow), left shoulder and later my right hand and elbow. I only thought it could come from over using a computer...I was wrong. At the age of 19 I began feeling a tingling sensation in my hand...I've been a waitress for a long time....I wore some wrist supports. That helped for about a year. Then my job became unbearable.  Later on thru the year, I began avoiding my job. Pain had strickened me. Because this had came from my working , I had to follow procedure for worker's comp. Constant visits to my doctor, cortizone shots, wrist splits and weeks of occupational therapy helped very little. The problem even worsened due to me being unable to use my left hand and elbow. My right hand was my only way of getting around. I needed help with putting on bras, clothes, washing up, eating, cutting and opening my medication. The medication Naproxen or Naprosyn felt like it was killing me. It did more damage to my stomach than relieve pain in my arms and hands. DON'T EVER TAKE THAT STUFF! It's okay in Alieve. That wasn't the best idea the doctor gave me either. I couldn't work anymore. I went 4mths without pay. I begged other people for money for survival. My job had no mercy or gave any compensation. Over $4000 later, My final solution came when I began taking One-A-Day for women and drinking vitamin water. Vitamin's B6 and B12 saved me and gave me some strength back. Also, my sister brought me a memory foam pillow that aided my shoulder pain when I slept. Maybe therapy will help now...I can finally lift 10lbs again!!! Because I'm a college student, I have low income, those months of decreased pay, doctor bills and no pay left me with a lot of debt...I'm still working to pay that off. Now at 21, prayer is all I can do...and notify everyone that being a waitress can be a dangerous occupation. Till this day...I've received nothing but pain and debt. My feelings are hurt because I was on that job for 3 yrs and 7mths before I quit. A year of being a hostess @ $7/hr wasn't getting me by. I was forced to move and get taken care of by someone else...knowing I couldn't work. I hope you reading this will inspire you to take your vitamins and maintain proper nutrition and stay prayerful...The battle is not yours. Special thanks...Melanie J. and Sharon M.  for helping me....family and friends for supporting me as much as you could.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

suggested by Wendy
Have a massage therapist work on you. The muscles that are impinging on the median nerve can be worked on & tension released in that area. Unless there are special circumstances, surgery is not the best answer. Ask your doctor will you have full strength in that wrist & will the pain go away & stay away after surgery. Their answers will probably be no. There are other routes to take. Make sure your doctor is telling you about them. I know of many people who have had massage therapy instead of surgery & are much better or don't have it anymore...all without surgery
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

suggested by Rekha
I have carpal tunnel syndrome for almost fifteen years. Never had surgery but everytime I had chiropractic treatment for neck and spine problem my hands heald. I stopped having treatment and do whatever light work I can do. My symptoms have advanced to the point where my fingers, especially thumb gets dislocated and cause severe pain to the point where I have to scream. It can happen to any of the thumb, index and middle finger. I also have tendonitis so I have problem with all the fingers. Also due to the the nerve compression in the C7 I have pain in my shoulders. I feel as if my both arms are too heavy for my shoulders to carry. I am not obesed. I weigh 100lbs. I am writing this so those who have a severe form of CTS will know what can happen to them after many years. I don't think there is any cure but just by giving hands a rest and do sedentary work, if there is any. I paint at my own pace and surf on the internet.
Carpal tunnel syndrome

suggested by Fil
I was operated on. This happened before I was diagnosed the calcific bursitis, of which I told you about . But my hands never went back to what they used to be, that is the complete feeling on the tips of my fingers has not returned completely. I go to chiropractice regularly and I found every time my back is straightened out and the "knots" on, around and under my shoulder blades are dealt with, my hands get back to normal. The median nerve on the arm may also hurt as if you had a bad bruise. When it is massaged on the spot it hurts the most, in the direction it runs there may be a feeling of something getting unstuck, then the hand gets back to normal. But I am still convinced it has to be treated as a whole: the inbalance of trace elements, the spine must be straight and the muscles in your body need tuning. The reason I am submitting my experience and my views is in the hope that those who know a lot more than I, who only know from experience, may take my information seriously enough to look into it, with an open mind. The solution to any problem in life can only be found with openmindedness, by looking at knowledge scattered world wide. It does not matter where a good idea comes from and only the conjunction of global knowledge can lead to solving whatever problem..                                                                                                                                             Lilyruths"This and that friendly cottage" Pets welcomed. Large thighs 'may protect heart'

The crucial measurement is taken just below the bottom
Men and women with thighs over 60cm (23.6in) in circumference have a lower risk of heart disease and early death, a study of 3,000 people suggests.
The relationship remains even when body fat, smoking and blood cholesterol are taken into account, a Danish team says.
Those with narrow thighs may not have enough muscle mass to deal with insulin properly, raising the risk of diabetes and, in turn, heart disease, they say.
Experts cautioned that the research needed corroborating.
Some said it was too early to change current advice on eating and exercise for heart health, but the researchers said thigh size could be used as a marker for at-risk patients.
The study, published in the British Medical Journal, followed men and women in Denmark for more than 10 years.
They were measured for height, weight and thigh, hip and waist circumference and their overall percentage of body fat was calculated.
It's a very simple, very crude measure but it seems to have an individual effect. And it may be a way for doctors to assess risk
Professor Berit Heitmann, Copenhagen University Hospital
The thigh measurement was taken just below the gluteal fold, which is the crease caused by your buttocks.
Researchers also looked at the activity levels of the participants, whether they smoked, their blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
They then monitored incidence of heart disease over 10 years and death rates over 12-and-a-half years.
'Crude measure'
During this time, 257 men and 155 women died, 263 men and 140 women developed cardiovascular disease and 103 men and 34 women suffered from heart disease.
The team at the Copenhagen University Hospital found that those with the smallest thighs - below 55cm - had twice the risk of early death or serious health problems.
Professor Berit Heitmann, who led the research, said: "The increased risk was independent of abdominal and general obesity and lifestyle and cardiovascular risk factors such as blood pressure.
"Additionally we found that the risk was more highly related to thigh circumference than to waist circumference.
HOW TO INCREASE YOUR THIGHS
Go to a gym and train three times a week
Exercise all the muscles in your thighs
Use a weight you can only just lift 10 times in a row
Over 3 months you will increase thighs by 6% to 10%
Source: Loughborough University
"It's a very simple, very crude measure but it seems to have an individual effect. And it may be a way for doctors to assess risk.
"The nice thing is that if you have a small thigh you can do something about it through exercise."
Previous studies have suggested that a waist circumference of over 35in (88.9cm) for a woman and 40in (101.6cm) for a man indicated a high risk of developing diabetes and heart disease.
Professor Heitmann's team says the risk of narrow thighs could be associated with too little muscle mass.
They say this can lead to the body not responding to insulin properly, increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes and, in the long-run, heart disease.
Too little fat can also lead to adverse changes in the way the body breaks down food.
'Great news'
British Heart Foundation senior cardiac nurse Judy O'Sullivan said: "There is insufficient evidence to confirm that a low thigh circumference affects a person's risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
"However, low muscle mass is associated with low levels of physical activity which is an established risk factor for developing heart disease."
Tam Fry, of the National Obesity Forum, agreed that the research needed further corroboration, saying: "This is a very interesting and slightly counter-intuitive piece of work but it has to be respected because of the numbers looked at and the duration of the research.
"This must be great news for people with larger thighs. What I find fascinating is that researchers are now going back to the drawing board and looking for every possible way of mitigating obesity." Old Folks Remedies about Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar, that wonderful old-timers home remedy, cures more ailments than any other folk remedy -- we're convinced! From the extensive feedback we've received over the past 8 years, the reported cures from drinking Apple Cider Vinegar are numerous. They include cures for allergies (including pet, food and environmental), sinus infections, acne, high cholesterol, flu, chronic fatigue, candida, acid reflux, sore throats, contact dermatitis, arthritis, and gout. One reader reported that a shot of ACV saved him from going to the emergency room for heart pain. Apple Cider Vinegar also breaks down fat and is widely used to lose weight. It has also been reported that a daily dose of apple cider vinegar in water has high blood pressure under control in two weeks!
If you can get over the taste of apple cider vinegar, you will find it one of the most important natural remedies in healing the body. As a wonderful side effect of drinking apple cider vinegar every day, we've discovered that it brings a healthy, rosy glow to one's complexion! This is great news if you suffer from a pale countenance.

But several tho have claimed that it has worked for them.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR DOSAGES AND RECIPES

As you know, Earth Clinic has recommended the standard 2 teaspoons in 8 oz of water 3x a day for years now. For more severe conditions, we recommended 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in 8 oz of water 3x a day. We now think that less vinegar, more water is an optimal way of taking apple cider vinegar daily unless you are treating an acute condition like acid reflux, cough, bronchitis, or sore throat (in which case the stronger concoction of 2 TBS ACV to 8 OZ of water 3x a day recipe is suggested).

For daily maintenance, weight loss and pH balancing, we now suggest the following:

2 teaspoons of organic apple cider vinegar
16 ounces of water
Sip, don't chug!

We suggest 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in 16 ounces of water that you'll sip throughout the day, rather than drinking the whole concoction at once 3 times a day. You will be keeping your pH in a constant, alkalized state by sipping this highly diluted dosage. Usually 1-2 tall glasses of the concoction are all you'll need each day.

If you drink a lot of water throughout the day, consider adding just a splash of apple cider vinegar to your glass/container each time you fill it up, rather than drinking the one, 16 oz glass of acv and water mentioned above.

For the record, we are not big fans of adding baking soda to apple cider vinegar, nor are we fans of adding any kind of sweetener to the acv/water solution. The baking soda works great for some people, but causes severe side effects in others, so be sure to think about it before you try this, I did not like the Baking SOda. TO each his own taste.. Hope this will be of help.

Also, we know the Bragg brand is the most popular apple cider vinegar on the market, but we've had just as good results using Whole Foods' organic and Trader Joe's organic apple cider vinegar. How to cope when bad things happen all at once

It always seems this way doesn't it? Something bad happens and you struggle to cope. But no sooner than you are attempting to deal with the first event when another crisis hits. There can be this domino effect of one crisis causing another and before you know it you feel shell shocked. How can one cope when multiple bad things happen within the same time frame?

This has happened to me many times and I am sure many of you can relate to this experience as well. I think for many of us, we have this biological predisposition towards depression. And then we get hit by multiple stressors and "BAM!" we find ourselves drowning in emotional despair.

I have personally experienced much trauma and hardship in my life. My most recent challenge was being told that I have a lifelong disease called Multiple Sclerosis. Of course this did not happen at a convenient time. Does it ever? I received my diagnosis pretty much at the same time that my youngest son who has autism was entering a very turbulent adolescent stage. Around this same time I was also asked to come in for a repeat mammogram. They had seen something on the first scans and they needed to repeat the procedure.

I remember feeling emotionally numb as though I were sleepwalking. One day I was fine and the next I wake up to find I had an incurable disease and possibly another medical problem to boot. During this time my son's behaviors seemed to spiral out of control. He was having trouble sleeping through the night; he began to have urinary accidents, and would cry with anger and frustration at the slightest provocation. He would also burst into hyperactive energy which caused him to run and me to run after him. Sometimes I felt more like his bodyguard than his mother.

The thoughts came flooding into my head of "How am I going to do this?" How was it possible that I could cope with autism, Multiple Sclerosis, and also the threat of yet another disease?

There came this moment of clarity for me when I was sitting on my couch and just staring at the living room wall. The light from the window blinds was penetrating through and casting long shadows on the white wall. Time seemed to slow down and me with it. I watched as the shadows changed almost imperceptibly. As the wind would move the leaves outside the window the light would dance and flicker. It was a nothing moment in that nothing extraordinary was happening. But within that moment I can tell you that I changed. I felt calmness and a resolve. The light would always be there. Long after I am gone that light will shine through someone else's window. If I could survive this moment then I could survive others. In between all the crises is the awe of a single moment of clarity.

Sometimes we are pared down to our bare essentials. We become this condensed version of ourselves in order to survive. I believe that is how I coped with this crazy time in my life. I conserved my strength for when I truly needed it and I began to focus on what was most important. One philosophy which has always helped me comes from what is known as the serenity prayer. And if you are not religious, it doesn't matter. In my opinion the serenity prayer is a guide towards wisdom. If you are not familiar with it, it goes like this: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference." In times when we are overwhelmed with emotion, it can sometimes be helpful to apply logic to the situation as hard as that may be...Source: HealthCentral.com Lilyruths"This and that friendly cottage" Pets welcomed. MS woman wins right-to-die fight

Debbie Purdy: "It gives me my life back, it means I don't have to make a decision"
A woman with multiple sclerosis has made legal history by winning her battle to have the law on assisted suicide clarified.

Debbie Purdy wanted to know if her husband would be prosecuted if he helped her end her life in Switzerland.

Five Law Lords ruled the Director of Public Prosecutions must specify when a person might face prosecution.

Ms Purdy, 46, from Bradford, said she was "ecstatic" at the ruling and she had been given her life back.

The Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer said he would publish an interim policy on when prosecutions could occur by September before putting the issue out to public consultation. Permanent policy will be published next spring.

Ms Purdy said the Law Lords' decision was "a huge step towards a more compassionate law".

"I'm ecstatic - I feel like I've been given a reprieve.

"I want to live my life to the full but I don't want to suffer unnecessarily at the end of my life.

HAVE YOUR SAY It's not for the state to choose how Debbie Purdy and others live or die. It must be the choice of the individual, with protection from the state for those who help
Jim, Halifax, UK
Send us your comments "The decision means that I can make an informed choice, with Omar, about whether he travels abroad with me to end my life because we will know exactly where we stand."

No one has been prosecuted for assisting someone's death, although the law says they could potentially face 14 years in prison.

The House of Lords, the highest court in the land, said the law was not as clear and precise as it should be.

Five Law Lords unanimously backed Ms Purdy's call for a policy statement from the Director of Public Prosecutions on when someone might face prosecution for helping a loved one end their life abroad.

Ms Purdy said she would like to see the policy distinguish between "what is acceptable and what isn't" so people in situations like hers could make decisions about what to do.

A spokesman from the Ministry of Justice said any change in the law was up to parliament.

"In a free vote on the issue on 7 July, the House of Lords rejected an attempt to decriminalise assisted suicide in circumstances where terminally ill people are helped to travel to countries where assisting dying is lawful," he said.

Human rights

The Law Lords also said she had the right to choose how she died, under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

That must be better than the current legal muddle

Sarah Wootton, Dignity in Dying

Q&A: Assisted suicide ruling
In a summary of their decision, the Law Lords said: "Everyone has the right to respect for their private life and the way that Ms Purdy determines to spend the closing moments of her life is part of the act of living.

"Ms Purdy wishes to avoid an undignified and distressing end to her life. She is entitled to ask that this too must be respected."

She had previously lost challenges in the High Court and Court of Appeal. The Lords ruling was her last chance of success in the UK legal system.

Ms Purdy, married to Cuban violinist Omar Puente, was diagnosed with primary progressive MS in March 1995. She can no longer walk and is gradually losing strength in her upper body.

DPP Keir Starmer: "I will be issuing a policy on assisted suicide"
She has suggested that at some point she may travel to Switzerland to take a lethal dose of barbiturates prescribed by doctors at the controversial Dignitas organisation.

More than 100 UK citizens have so far ended their lives at Dignitas, and no-one who has accompanied them has ever been prosecuted on their return to the UK.

However, the reasons why legal action has not been taken have never been made clear.

'Significant victory'

Ms Purdy had previously said if the law was not clarified she would have had to end her life earlier than she wanted to.

Sarah Wootton, chief executive of Dignity in Dying, said: "This historic judgement ensures the law keeps up with changes in society and crucially, provides a more rational deterrent to abuse than a blanket ban which is never enforced. Source: News

Herbal Medications For Asthma

Asthma is a respiratory disease of the bronchial tubes or airways. Its symptoms are feeling of tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing. Breathlessness is caused by the narrowing of the bronchioles (small air passages in the lungs). An asthma attack can be triggered by an allergen to which a patient is abnormally sensitive. These include airborne pollen, mold, and dust. Attacks can also be triggered by physical exercise, emotional stress, cold air, inhalation of cigarrette smoke, noxious fumes from gasolines and paints. It can also be triggered by viral infection in the respiratory tract.

There is no known permanent cure for asthma. Attacks can be prevented by the use of anti-inflammatory drugs, such as cromolyn sodium and corticosteroids. Drugs that relax and widen the air passages such as albuterol and epinephrine can provide fast relief.

There are other temporary cure for asthma: water treatment, breathing exercises, and some herbal medications. Water treatment includes fomentation on the chest twice a day, and steam inhalation, also done twice a day. Breathing exercises for 10 to 15 minutes 4 times a day, and must be done only when there is no attack.

Sit relax on a chair. Support the back with a pillow. Breathe in through the nose. Purse the lips and pretend you are blowing through a straw. Blow twice as long as you breathe in, and gradually increase the time of blowing. Relax after blowing. Take 3 to 4 normal breaths before starting the pursed breathing again. Do this exercise upon waking up in the morning, and before retiring in the evening.

The following herbal medications can also be used to relieve an asthma attack:

Roll 2 dried leaves of thorn apple or talumpunay, and use as cigarette stick every 6 hours.
Roll 2 dried leaves of graveyard tree or kalatsutsi, and use as a cigarette stick one in the morning, and one in the evening.
Chop and boil one-foot long bark of tamarind tree in 3 glasses of water for 10 minutes. Adults must drink 1 cup every after meal, and at bedtime. Dosage for children is 2 teaspoons every after meal and at bedtime.
Boil 5 chopped young stems with flowers and leaves of amaranth or kulitis in 5 glasses of water for 10 minutes. Dosage for adults is 1 cup, 4 times a day; and for children, 1/2 cup, 4 times a day. This treatment is good for excessive mucus discharge.

Old Folks Remedies--Stop Excessive Under-Arm sweating

Those of you who suffer with excessive underarm sweating know how difficult it is to not be able to wear what you want, to worry non stop about those sweat marks... Well, there are ways to deal with excessive underarm sweating naturally by using common ingredients...

Causes of excessive sweating

Axillary Hyperhidrosis, or excessive underarm sweating can have many causes. Sometimes, the cause is neurological. Sometimes, metabolism goes haywire and causes the sweat glands to produce more than usually. Often, people find themselves covered in sweat when the weather is humid and hot (I can relate, being in Georgia!). Stress and nervousness prompt the sweat glands to go into high production. Whatever the cause is, you need to consult a dermatologist to determine what your problem is.

There are several options you could resort to: antiperspirants, botox, and surgery. But, why not try and deal with this problem naturally by using some of these home remedies:

Baking soda

Baking soda is a base that returns the skin's pH to normal. To help prevent sweating, apply some baking soda on your armpits after taking a shower. Baking soda regulates the skin's pH but also helps kill the excess bacteria that can cause body odor.

Vinegar

Not only it unglues the bond that holds the dead skin cells together, its acids again help the skin in regulating its pH. Apply it on clean skin a few times a day.

Citrus fruits

Lime or lemons are acidic. They are also astringents, meaning they shrink the pores which in turn reduces sweating. Citric fruits help cleanse the skin and eliminate bacteria causing the odor.

To use it, cut a lemon (or lime) in half and rub it against the skin. Again, make sure you take a shower beforehand.

Finally, take showers often and wear cotton based clothes.

Discover the amazingly simple method to combat sweat in less than 2 weeks! 100% guaranteed!

It Doesn't Matter What You've Already Tried ...You Can Lower Underarm, Hand, Face, Foot and Overall Sweating By As Much As 95%.

No expensive cremes, injections, and surgery. Natural approach with natural, readily available ingredients.

Stop sweating and start living...

Daily sex 'best for good sperm'

Daily ejaculation may be the best way to improve sperm quality
Having sex every day improves sperm quality and could boost the chances of getting pregnant, research suggests.
In a study of men with fertility problems, daily ejaculation for a week cut the amount of DNA damage seen in sperm samples.
Speaking at a fertility conference, the Australian researcher said general advice for couples had been to have sex every two or three days.
Early results from the trial had already shown promising results.
Perhaps we have been blaming the women as couples get older but perhaps there's a contribution from the male because we're not behaving as we should be
Dr David GreeningSydney IVF
But 118 men have now been tested and the benefits for sperm have become clearer.
Dr David Greening, from Sydney IVF, told delegates at the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology meeting that eight in ten men taking part showed a 12% drop in sperm DNA damage after the seven days.
Although there was a big drop in sperm numbers from 180 million to 70 million over the week, men were still within the normal "fertile" range.
Sperm also became more active over the seven days with a small rise in motility, he added.
Damage
The theory is the longer sperm hang around in the testes the more likely they are to accumulate DNA damage and the warm environment could also make them more sluggish after a while.
Sperm come under attack by free radicals - small reactive molecules which can damage DNA and cause cell death - in the tube that stores and carries sperm away from the testes.
Further work is needed to work out if daily sex for men without fertility problems has the same benefits but Dr Greening believes it is likely to be the case.
He warns that having daily sex for too long - say a fortnight - would probably cut sperm numbers too much.
But recommended "lots of sex daily" around the time the woman is ovulating.
He said it was best to "keep the river flowing".
As men age they may not have as much sex as they did when they were younger, adding to the problem of infertility, Dr Greening told delegates.
"We are designed to breed in our youth.
"Perhaps we have been blaming the women as couples get older but perhaps there's a contribution from the male because we're not behaving as we should be."
The findings may also have implications for couples undergoing IVF as men are commonly told to abstain from sex for a couple of days to try and boost sperm numbers.
Dr Alan Pacey, a fertility expert at the University of Sheffield, said the finding that daily ejaculation improved the chances of conception was interesting, but it would be wrong to apply the results to all men.
"For example, in cases where men have low sperm counts to start with, daily ejaculations may well reduce the sperm count still further and whilst sperm may be more healthy the reduced numbers could impede the chance of natural conception.
"The best general advice is that if couples are attempting to conceive naturally, intercourse every couple of days will make sure the sperm are as healthy as possible on each occasion.
"However, in preparation for IVF or ICSI treatment, this advice may well change in response to medical test results like DNA damage measurements." Old Folks Remedies-Anti-Aging face Recipe

Anti aging mask doesn't necessarily have to involve complicated ingredients and be time consuming.

One reader sent this recipe based on 2 simple ingredients.

And that is what skin care should be about: natural, simple and effective ingredients.

Honey fruit age defying mask

Ingredients

1 tsp of honey
A few drops of orange juice.

Preparation

1.Mix the two together well.
2.Spread mixture over entire face even around the eyes and mouth.
3.Leave it on for 20 minutes if possible, then remove with lots of warm water and a pad of cotton wool.

*This mixture is specially good for mature skin and will put softness into younger skins which have been over dried by wind or sun.

*If used regularly it can stave off those fine lines that appear as we get older.

Thanks Reader!
Orange juice contains Vitamin C, one of the best anti-aging vitamins out there. Vitamin C enhances the production of collagen in the skin's deeper layers. Collagen provides for elastic and smooth skin.

Honey is a great antiseptic and cleanser of the skin.

Old Folks Remedy- Garlic based hair loss remedy

Men and Women have tried this Old Folks Remedy and say that even after trying different solutions they still were losing their hair they finally turned to this home remedy for hair loss because none of the traditional medications helped. helped.

One woman said: "This is by far the best hair loss remedy that I have tried, and I have tried many. I even dared to use petroleum jelly on my hair and that was, to say it gently, not a very smart choice. It sure helped with removing some dead skin cells off my scalp as it burnt the skin."

So you don't get tempted to do the same thing, try this Garlic based hair loss remedy
Ingredients:

1 tablespoon of aloe gel

1 tablespoon of honey

1 tablespoon of garlic juice

2 egg yolks

3 tablespoons of chamomile (tea bag content is fine to use)

24 fluid oz of water

Instructions:

1) Peel garlic and use a garlic press to squeeze the juice out

2) Mix it with honey and place the bowl in the fridge

3) Boil water with chamomile tea for about 30 minutes

4) Stir occasionally

5) When tea is done, take the bowl with honey and garlic juice out of the fridge

6) Stir in an egg yolk into the garlic juice/honey mix

7) Add Aloe Vera gel to the mix.

8) Use the mix and gently rub it in your scalp. When you run out of the paste, wrap a towel around your head.

9) Keep on your head for 20 minutes and wash once with a neutral shampoo (I used Johnson's Baby shampoo). Rub in the second egg yolk and wash off using only warm water.

10) To finish off, wash your hair off with the previously prepared chamomile tea.

Use this mix once a week. If you don't notice any improvement within a month or so, please visit a dermatologist.

That's it! It might sound a bit elaborate, but remember: your hair loss is a complicated issue and deserves to be treated like one. Let me know if you found this hair loss remedy helpful

The Ten Top Foods To Boost Your Sex Drive

Have you ever wondered if eating certain foods could actually boost your sex drive? Claims that foods like chocolate and avocados are potent aphrodisiacs date back to ancient Greek and Aztec civilizations. Throughout history aphrodisiacs have been sought out to increase sexual performance, sex drive, and fertility. But in the modern, scientific world is there any truth to these claims? While many beliefs about food as an aphrodisiac have been deemed false by the FDA and similar organizations, there is reliable evidence that proves some foods cause an immediate and/or delayed boost in our sexual desires and physical responses. I came up with the following list of foods that promise to give you a natural boost in sex drive. Bon Appétit!

1. Granola – MSNBC reports that granola is rich in L-Arginine, an amino acid that improves circulation and erectile response. Studies show that L-Arginine helps improve sexual function in men. No studies on women have been done yet, but it’s likely they would enjoy the same effects.

2. Red wine or champagne – Dietitian Tanya Zuckerbrot recommends drinking a glass of red wine or champagne because it will awaken your libido and it actually helps keep your arteries open and blood flowing. Of course, avoid drinking too much because excessive alcohol decreases your sexual performance and desire.

3. Celery - Ava Cadell, Ph.D., author of Passion Power, says that “raw celery contains the male hormone androsterone, which can act as a pheromone to trigger female attraction.” Once a guy takes a few bites, the pheromone begins to release from his sweat glands. If women need a mood booster, they can eat celery too. The Journal of Fertility and Sterility says androsterone has mood-elevating effects in women.

4. Bananas – Women’s Health Magazine says bananas are the perfect food to give you endurance in the bedroom. Bananas have B vitamins which convert carbohydrates into energy and may help your body produce sex hormones such as testosterone. Hilda Hutcherson, M.D., author of Pleasure, recommends eating a banana a few hours before sex to keep your energy up.

5. Vanilla – Alan Hirsch, founder of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, says the smell of food is the most powerful aspect for making men feel “in the mood.” In his study on aromas and their effect on penile blood flow, Hirsch found that smells which remind men of the security and pleasure of their childhood make them turned on. Vanilla seems to work for this reason.

6. Dark Chocolate – Women’s Health reports that a recent Italian study concluded that women who eat chocolate daily have more satisfying sex lives. Hilda Hutcherson, M.D., author of Pleasure, says chocolate contains chemicals that are linked to relaxation, intoxication, and pleasure. Mark’s Daily Apple wrote that the chemical phenylethylamine in chocolate has been found to trigger feelings similar to “falling in love.”

7. Flaxseeds – Helen Fisher, Ph.D., author of Why We Love, says consuming one tablespoon of flaxseeds every day helps to increase testosterone in the body. Flaxseeds are also packed with essential fatty acids (omega-3, omega-6, etc.) which Women’s Health says are “the major building blocks of all sex hormones.” Hilda Hutcherson, M.D., author of Pleasure, says that failing to get enough fatty acids forces your body’s hormone levels to drop along with your desire. Try walnuts if you don’t like flaxseeds.
8. Ginger – Fresh ginger root stimulates your circulatory system which in turn increases the blood flow to the genital areas.

9. Oysters – Oysters are high in zinc which is a mineral the body needs to produce testosterone. Nurse and holistic health practitioner Ellen Kamhi says that zinc “is often low in men who have sexual dysfunction. Adding foods high in zinc, like oysters, as well as pumpkin seeds and pine nuts, is essential for a healthy sex life.” Also, a recent study found that two types of amino acids in mussels, oysters, and clams induce a rush of sex hormones in the body. In addition, make sure to chew shellfish thoroughly because it helps pull out more of these amino acids.

Can’t stomach oysters? Zinc can also be found in beans, pork, turkey, brown rice, cashews, peanuts, and sunflower seeds.

10. Asparagus – Dietitian Tanya Zuckerbrot says “asparagus contains folate which is necessary for histamine production and histamine is necessary for both males and females to reach orgasm.” Asparagus is also a finger food which provides visual stimulus for your partner.

Selling Body Parts is lucrative business until you get caught

LOS ANGELES - A man was convicted Thursday of carving up cadavers donated to UCLA's medical school and selling the parts to unsuspecting medical research companies in a $1.5 million scheme.

Jurors found Ernest Nelson, 51, guilty of eight counts, including grand theft and tax evasion. Prosecutors said Nelson could face a maximum of 12 years in prison and they want him to repay $1.5 million to UCLA.

Nelson "was willing to go into a willed body program and cut up body parts for his own personal financial gain," prosecutor Marisa Zarate said after the verdict.

Defense attorney Sean McDonald said he was disappointed by the verdict and left court without further comment.

Prosecutors said Nelson and Henry Reid, the former director of UCLA's Willed Body Program, devised the scam in 1999.

Nelson, who ran a business transporting body parts to hospitals and medical research firms, has said he thought the sales were authorized by the university.

Prosecutors said he bought the donated torsos, cut them up and kept them frozen in a rented warehouse until they were sold to companies that didn't know they had been improperly obtained.

Nelson, of Rancho Cucamonga, used cashier's checks to pay Reid a total of $43,000 in 1999, Zarate said. Other payments were made in cash and weren't documented, she said.

The plan unraveled after a state health investigator became concerned about a sale in 2003 and contacted UCLA.

Reid has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit grand theft and was sentenced to more than four years in prison.

The scandal led to the suspension of UCLA's cadaver program for a year in 2004 and forced the University of California system to examine its donation rules.

The school said it instituted procedures to prevent future abuses, including tracking systems for the bodies. Roxanne Moster, a spokeswoman for the medical school, said in a statement that the school was "confident that these measures will ensure that our donors' generosity will be used only to advance scientific research and our students' education."

One juror said lax supervision of the UCLA program contributed to the problem.

"If UCLA had better supervision of its program something like this wouldn't have happened," said the 48-year-old man who asked that his name be withheld to protect his job as a paralegal.

The jury also found there was a pattern of fraud and embezzlement totaling more than $500,000 - a special enhancement allegation that will be considered during sentencing on June 12.

Founded in 1950, the UCLA cadaver program received about 175 donated bodies a year before it was suspended. It was the second time in less than a decade that scandal swept the cadaver program.

In 1996, relatives of body donors alleged the program had illegally disposed of thousands of donated bodies, including dumping some remains in landfills.

A state appellate court ruled the plaintiffs had failed to prove the allegations

Swine Flu-Health officials worry what will happen this fall when traditional flu season begins

The number of cases is expected to rise as the new flu spreads across the country. But the hope and expectation is that, aided by the warm summer weather that flu bugs don't like, the rate of spread will slow.
That may only be the lull before the storm, Besser warned. What worries health officials is what will happen this fall when traditional flu season begins.
"We don't know what the fall will bring," Besser said. "What has been seen with previous outbreaks is flu goes away in the summer. But during the winter flu spreads better, so the virus could go away and come back."
Besser urged Americans to take advantage of this breathing room. True, H1N1 swine flu could just go away for a number of reasons. On the other hand, it could just as easily become more severe as it picks up elements from seasonal flu bugs.
"This period of time before the fall is critically important for community preparedness should this virus come back in a severe form," Besser said.
There's a lot that governments, communities, and businesses can do. But Besser strongly urged individuals to prepare at the family level. He stressed hand washing, staying home when sick, and covering coughs. He also pointed families to the CDC's pandemic flu web site.
That web site advises families to make preparations for a flu pandemic:
• Store a two-week supply of water and food. During a pandemic, if you cannot get to a store, or if stores are out of supplies, it will be important for you to have extra supplies on hand. This can be useful in other types of emergencies, such as power outages and disasters.
• Periodically check your regular prescription drugs to ensure a continuous supply in your home.
• Have any nonprescription drugs and other health supplies on hand, including pain relievers, stomach remedies, cough and cold medicines, fluids with electrolytes, and vitamins. Quack remedies spread by virtue of being useless

Quack remedies spread by virtue of being useless
I published this article because I thought it might be of interest to those who do take alot of old folks remedies and other kitchen cure and native remedies well folks I myself can say the Old Folks Remedies I do publish on lilyruths this and that have been tried by people who tried them and they worked for them. I know for a fact I have tried several of these Old Folks Remedies myself and they have worked for me. Now maybe some of them will not work for you but this does not mean they don't work what works for me may not work for you.. Its up to you tho if you if you want to try them....
Eating a vulture won't clear a bad case of syphilis nor will a drink made of rotting snakes treat leprosy, but these and other bogus medical treatments spread precisely because they don't work. That's the counterintuitive finding of a mathematical model of medical quackery.
Ineffective treatments don't cure an illness, so sufferers demonstrate them to more people than those who recovery quickly after taking real medicines.
"The assumption is that when people pick up treatments to try, they're basically observing other people," says Mark Tanaka, a mathematical biologist at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, who led the study. "People don't necessarily know that what somebody is trying is going to work."
The World Health Organization is demanding better proof that folk medicines work before they can be approved. And the Malaysian government has rejected more than a third of the 25,000 applications to register traditional medicines it has received because the treatments are ineffective or dangerous.
Despite these efforts, quack medicine persists around the world. Some Nigerians treat malaria with witchcraft, a South African health minister recently claimed that garlic and beetroot treat HIV, and western health stores brim with unproven treatments for almost any disease imaginable. For instance St John's wort does nothing for attention deficit hyperactive disorder in children, a recent placebo-controlled trial concluded.
Contagious treatments
To understand why these quack medical treatments persist in the face of better proven remedies, Tanaka applied mathematical models used to measure evolutionary fitness to medical treatments.
His model accounted for factors including the rate of conversion to a treatment, the effectiveness of a treatment, the rate at which people abandon a treatment, the odds of recovering naturally, and the chances of dying. The model starts with a single person demonstrating a treatment – rubbish or not – and measures how many people are influenced to go on to give the treatment a try.
Under a wide range of conditions, quack treatments garnered more converts than proven hypothetical medicines that offer quicker recovery, Tanaka found. "The very fact that they don't work mean that people that use them stay sick longer" and demonstrate a treatment to more people, he says.
Bad treatments don't always win out. Recurring diseases are more likely to promote effective treatments than rare diseases because repeated demonstration weeds out bad treatments, Tanaka found.
'Just ask'
But is this model valid in cultures where evidence-based medicine predominates, and government groups such as the US Food and Drug Administration vet most medical treatments?
Tanaka thinks so, pointing to the popularity of alternative medicines and the debate over the effectiveness of FDA-approved drugs. "In many situations people will just observe and copy anyway, regardless what the official information is," he says.
And in some cases, one peer-reviewed study may conclude that a drug works, while another shows it doesn't. "Even where there is a bit of clinical research, we don't really know yet whether at lot of medicines are effective," he says.
"I think it's an interesting idea. It's quite clever", James Holland Jones, a biological anthropologist at Stanford University in California, says of the model. However, language allows people to vet unproven remedies without trying them, he adds – that is, you can just ask if a treatment was effective. "You don't necessarily have to copy everything.
