Mafia's Ten Commandments

Italian police have found what they say is a "Ten Commandments"-style code of behaviour for Mafia members, at the hideout of a captured Mafia boss.
Prohibitions include frequenting bars and looking at friends' wives, while members are urged to treat their own wives with respect.
The list was found during the arrest of Salvatore Lo Piccolo, the reputed new boss of the Sicilian Mafia.
It is thought to have been drawn up as a "guide to being a good mobster".
Other activites apparently beyond the pale for Mafiosi are being friends with the police, being late for appointments and "appropriating money if it belongs to other Mafia members or to other families".
Childbirth
The document makes clear that people with police or informers in their family cannot become members of the Mob.
And although mobsters' wives must be respected, they should not expect much support during childbirth: the rules state that "always being available for Cosa Nostra is a duty - even if your wife's about to give birth".
The decalogue was discovered along with a large number of other coded documents in a house near Palermo where Mr Lo Piccolo was apprehended after spending more than two decades on the run from police.
Investigators say that the documents - including the Ten Commandments - will give them an insight into how the Mafia operates.
The papers also reveal details of companies with Mafia connections and information about the hierarchy within the organisation.
The Mafia's "Ten Commandments"
The original Ten Commandments
1. No-one can present himself directly to another of our friends. There must be a third person to do it.
1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me
2. Never look at the wives of friends.
2. Thou shalt not make for thyself an idol
3. Never be seen with cops.
3. Thou shalt not make wrongful use of the name of thy God
4. Don't go to pubs and clubs.
4. Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
5. Always being available for Cosa Nostra is a duty - even if your wife's about to give birth.
5. Honor thy Father and Mother
6. Appointments must absolutely be respected.
6. Thou shalt not murder
7. Wives must be treated with respect.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery
8. When asked for any information, the answer must be the truth.
8. Thou shalt not steal
9. Money cannot be appropriated if it belongs to others or to other families.
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor
10. People who can't be part of Cosa Nostra: anyone who has a close relative in the police, anyone with a two-timing relative in the family, anyone who behaves badly and doesn't hold to moral values.
10. Thou shalt not covet Source: news --> Blog Advertising - Get Paid to Blog>If you like this post buy me a beer

Woman faces jail, fine for shouting profanities in her own home

SCRANTON, Pa. - A Scranton woman who admitted shouted profanities at her overflowing toilet within earshot of a neighbor was cited for disorderly conduct, authorities said.

Dawn Herb could face up to 90 days in jail and a fine of up to $300.

“It doesn’t make any sense. I was in my house. It’s not like I was outside or drunk,” Herb told The Times-Tribune of Scranton. “The toilet was overflowing and leaking down into the kitchen and I was yelling (for my daughter) to get the mop.”

Herb doesn’t recall exactly what she said, but she admitted letting more than a few choice words fly near an open bathroom window Thursday night.

Her next-door neighbor, a city police officer who was off-duty at the time, asked her to keep it down, police said. When she continued, the officer called police.

Mary Catherine Roper, an attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union in Philadelphia, took issue with the citation.

“You can’t prosecute somebody for swearing at a cop or a toilet,” she said.

The Enviroment and Ice Age

I told my friend Chessnoid I would join In to make people aware to keep our enviroment Clean. I recycle all the cans I get and always planting green plants to clean the air. You all can join in to keep the enviroment clean as well.Scientists are keeping their eyes out for the changes in the enviroment and global warming..The records we have go back a few hundred years at most.Just because scientists say its out fault and the government agree doesnt make it so, scientists once said the world was flat, scientist said we were the center of the universe and everything revolved around us, scientist said a lot of things which quite frankly prove nothing but the arrogance of man.The Earths rotation around the Sun isnt the same all the time, it alters slightly, the Earth's rotational axis also varies, these 2 simple things will throw any data that we have well off even if these 2 simple rotations change by as much as a single degree, add to that the Earth tilting on its own axis and there you have 3 simple things that will really screw up the eco-system of this planet, then theres the moon, change its rotation and bang the tidal system on the planet goes too pot...

A Texas folklore told to me when I was growing up, its suppose to have really happened but then again you know how stories go But are they just stories? I shall tell you this tale and you all decide for yourselves........................ Dancing with the Devil

The girl hurried through her schoolwork as fast as she could. It was the night of the high school dance, along about 70 years ago in the town of Kingsville, Texas. The girl was so excited about the dance. She had bought a brand new, sparkly red dress for the dance. She knew she looked smashing in it. It was gone to be the best evening of her life.

Then her mother came in the house, looking pale and determined.

"You are not going to that dance," her mother said.

"But why?" the girl asked her mother.

"I've just been talking to the preacher. He says the dance is going to be for the devil. You are absolutely forbidden to go," her mother said.

The girl nodded as if she accepted her mother's words. But she was determined to go to the dance. As soon as her mother was busy, she put on her brand new red dress and ran down to the K.C. Hall where the dance was being held.

As soon as she walked into the room, all the guys turned to look at her. She was startled by all the attention. Normally, no one noticed her. Her mother sometimes accused her of being too awkward to get a boyfriend. But she was not awkward that night. The boys in her class were fighting with each other to dance with her.

Later, she broke away from the crowd and went to the table to get some punch to drink. She heard a sudden hush. The music stopped. When she turned, she saw a handsome man with jet black hair and clothes standing next to her.

"Dance with me," he said.

She managed to stammer a "yes", completely stunned by this gorgeous man. He led her out on the dance floor. The music sprang up at once. She found herself dancing better than she had ever danced before. They were the center of attention.

Then the man spun her around and around. She gasped for breath, trying to step out of the spin. But he spun her faster and faster. Her feet felt hot. The floor seemed to melt under her. He spun her even faster. She was spinning so fast that a cloud of dust flew up around them both so that they were hidden from the crowd.
When the dust settled, the girl was gone. The man in black bowed once to the crowd and disappeared. The devil had come to his party and he had spun the girl all the way to hell.

Halloween safety Tips for Children and Adults

Halloween safety tips for children and adults!
Child Safety
NEVER eat any treats until they are examined by an adult at your home.
Trick or Treat with friends or with adult supervision. Don't go alone.
NEVER enter the house or car of a stranger.
Trick or Treat in the late afternoon or early evening.
Trick or Treat in your own neighborhood, and visit only houses that you know.
Stay on streets that are well lit and only cross the street at the corners.
NEVER run across the street and always look both ways before crossing.
Do not take short cuts through backyards, alleys, or parks.
Carry a flashlight or wear reflective tape so drivers can see you and you can see hazards in the street as well as other people.
Only trick or treat at houses where the porch light is on and well lit.
Carry a few quarters for a payphone so you can call home if you need to.
Do not play with lighters, matches, or fireworks!
Adult Safety
Welcome trick-or-treaters with your porch lights and any exterior lights on.
Patrol your street occasionally to discourage speeding motorists, acts of malicious mischief and crimes against children.
Report any suspicious or criminal activity to your police department immediately. In many areas you can dial 9-1-1.
Candlelit jack-o-lanterns should be kept clear of doorsteps and landings.
Consider using flashlights instead of candles to light jack-o-lanterns.
Keep pets away from doors so children will not become frightened.
Set a time limit for your children to "trick-or-treat." Also designate a specific route for them to take.
Feed the kids before they go so they will be less likely to eat the treats before they get home. Warn them not to eat anything before you inspect it.
Car Safety
Exercise extreme caution when driving a vehicle. Be on the alert for excited youngsters, whose vision may be obscured by masks, darting out into traffic.
Motorists should avoid all unnecessary travel on Halloween evening, and when driving all motorists should drive slowly.
Many accidents occur when motorists are backing vehicles out of driveways. Make absolutely sure there are no small children behind your car.
Flame Resistant Costume
When purchasing costumes, masks, beards and wigs, look for the label "Flame Resistant." Although this label does not mean these items won't catch fire, it does indicate the items will resist burning and should extinguish quickly. To minimize the risk of contact with candles and other fire sources, avoid costumes made with flimsy materials and outfits with big, baggy sleeves or billowing skirts.
Costume Design
Purchase or make costumes that are light, bright and clearly visible to motorists. For greater visibility during dusk and darkness, decorate or trim costumes with reflective tape that will glow in the beam of a car's headlights.
Bags or sacks also should be light colored or decorated with reflective tape.
Children should carry flashlights to see easily and aid in being seen.
Costumes should be short enough so that children won't trip and fall.
Children should wear well-fitting, sturdy shoes. Mother's high heels are not a good idea for safe walking.
Tie hats and scarfs securely to keep them from slipping over children's eyes.
If your child wears a mask, make sure it fits securely and has eyeholes large enough to allow full vision.
Swords, knives, and accessories should be made of soft, flexible material.
Always use common sense, caution and adult supervision to make this Halloween the best ever. Have a fun, safe and Happy Halloween from Halloween is Here!

Holy Cheetos Batman

It was a real bell-ringer for a Des Moines, Iowa, man when he was charged with domestic assault after bonking his father in the face with a bag of Cheetos.Patrick Hamman, 22, was arrested for throwing the bag of Cheetos at his father, Michael Hamman, hitting him in the face and covering poor dad in Cheetos dust.It was a cheesy thing to do, Patrick said, admitting he was high on methamphetamines at the time of the argument.Good thing the bag didn't contain the world's largest Cheeto found by Navy Petty Officer Mike Evans in 2003. That baby was about the size of a small lemon.

NO SEX and Live to be 107 Years Old!

A 107-year-old Hong Kong villager, who still enjoys an occasional smoke, has attributed his longevity in part to decades of sexual abstinence, a newspaper reported Sunday.

“I don’t know why I have lived this long,” Chan Chi — one of Hong Kong’s oldest people — was quoted as saying in the South China Morning Post during an annual feast for the city’s elders.
“Maybe it has to do with the fact that I have lived a sex-less life for many years — since I was 30,” said Chan, a widower whose youthful bride perished during the Japanese invasion in World War Two.
Chan, from Hong Kong’s less built-up New Territories hinterland, was pictured looking sprightly and eating heartily at the banquet.
A former chef, he said a low-fat diet and regular dawn exercises had helped him fight off the ravages of old age.

Human Sex Pheromones

What Works :Pherlure Cologne is the winner, too bad I didn't find it first. First off, it's the only one on the list that uses an exclusive pheromone, Di-Dehydroepiandrosterone, to be university tested by University of Chicago. University of Chicago was actually the first University to find humans respond to pheromones in the 90's. The tests they've done on this brand showed that it works! By far the most effective Pheromone product I've tested, increased smiles, flirting, calls, action... The stuff also smells awsome, I've gotten compliments on just the smell. Highly Recommended by satified customer.

Relative denies Dog death Charge

Mrs Simpson was injured in the attack
The grandmother of a five-year-old girl who was fatally mauled by a dog has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter at Liverpool Crown Court.
Jacqueline Simpson, 46, was babysitting Ellie Lawrenson at her home in St Helens, Merseyside when the attack took place early on New Year's Day.

She was granted unconditional bail until the trial begins on 3 September.

The dog was later shot by Merseyside Police after confirmation that it was a banned "pit bull terrier type".

Jacqueline Simpson needed emergency surgery for arm injuries after she was also attacked by the dog as her granddaughter was savaged.

The child's uncle, 23-year-old Kyle Simpson, has already admitted owning the dog and was jailed for eight weeks in May... News article:

Project to boost brain knowledge

Project to boost brain knowledge

The project will further understanding of brain conditionsA £40m study to improve scientist's understanding of how the brain works has been launched.
It is hoped the five-year project by experts from six Scottish universities will boost study of conditions such as stroke, schizophrenia and Alzheimer's.
Scientists will use state-of-the-art equipment to create images of the brain.
The money will also be used to bring leading researchers from across the world to Scotland.
The project will be known as The Scottish Imaging Network: A Platform for Scientific Excellence (SINAPSE).
The partnership of experts from Aberdeen, Dundee, St Andrews, Stirling, Glasgow and Edinburgh universities will collect data on brain information including structure, function and brain waves.
It will be retrieved using technology which includes magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET).
About £35m of its total funding has been provided by the universities, with a further £6.3m secured from the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) and £700,000 from the Chief Scientist Office.
'Distressing conditions'
It is hoped that five new chairs will be created across the universities, and that the project will be able to retain the best Scottish graduates.
Dr Richard Lerski, from Dundee University, said: "The SINAPSE collaboration opens up new and exciting possibilities to further our understanding of the mind and the diseases that affect the mind.
"Partnerships such as SINAPSE are essential to push forward new discoveries aimed to support the development of treatments which will be of great benefit to patients in Scotland and beyond."
Professor Joanna Wardlaw, of Edinburgh University, added: "Several key advances in medical imaging originated in Scotland, so we are continuing what is a strong research tradition.
"Working together, we can make new discoveries for the benefit of all patients, which would be hard to make by working alone."
SFC chief executive Roger McClure said: "The potential benefits to individuals and their families of understanding better these distressing conditions are enormous."

Good Memory

You know to remember the name of a person, be interested in him or her. Be interested in what he has to say about himself. It is not easy to remember faces arbitrarily. We recall easily that in which we are interested. If you can find a common point of contact with a person when you meet him or her, you are much more apt to recall him the next time you see him. Of course, one remembers most easily those in whom he finds the most congenial response. But a continued response from another person is something that you can cultivate. Almost everyone has some points of interests and if you want to remember people and names, then make it your business to find that point of common interest when you meet him. You can begin (especially if you are a professional man or woman) by asking questions. Gradually you can find out what interests the other fellow and he will talk more interestedly aboutthat in which he is himself interested. Another thing, don't hurry too much when you fnd it difficult to recall a name. Do not allow yourself to become panic-stricken because of this inability to recall. If you wait quietly and relax and talk a moment with the person, the chances are that you will find their name coming up into your consciousness without effort on your part...

Old Folk Remedy For Sleep

For All those who have trouble sleeping and Im one of them (Im a night-owl, I stay up all night and sleep most of the day.) I ran across this and I hope it will be of help to to those who have sleepless nights (and cold feet.LOL)
MISCELLANEOUS & QUIRKY REMEDIES
Trying to get to sleep can be soooo frustrating, we'll try anything! These are some of the miscellaneous or off-beat remedies we've come across - but one might be 'just the thing' for you - that helps you get to sleep.
TURN YOURSELF UPSIDE DOWN - On your bed, that is. Simply put your pillow at the foot of the bed and turn the covers around, lay your head on the pillow and... nod off - we hope. A friend, who every once in a while hits a bout of sleeplessness, uses this one with great success, she says. It's something she used as a kid and it still works for her. Something about changing the environment - an intriguing, possibly important concept - might work in other ways, too...
HUG YOUR OLD "TEDDY"
If you've still got your beloved security-blanket-teddy from childhood - or a newer version - by all means hug it to you if it offers comfort and peace for your soul.
VINEGAR & HONEY
(We saw this in a book of cider vinegar remedies we thumbed through in our local health food store.) Add 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and two teaspoons of honey to a glass of boiling hot water. Drink. Another version, from Vermont: Mix 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with one cup of honey. Take two teaspoons at bedtime. If needed, take two more an hour later.
These from Katherine A. Albert's excellent book, Get a Good Night's Sleep:
PUEBLO INDIAN REMEDY - Eat mushrooms.
CHINESE REMEDY - Make a mixture of chopped ginseng and orange peel, mixed with honey.
GYPSY REMEDY 1 - Cook lettuce in a half-pint of boiling water with a little salt.
GYPSY REMEDY 2 - Mix lemon juice, orange juice, two tablespoons of honey and hot water. You could also add some grapefruit juice.
SCOTTISH REMEDY - Oatmeal gruel with honey.
BALKAN CURE - Take buttermilk half an hour before bed.
FOLK REMEDY 1 - Raw onion on toast at bedtime.
FOLK REMEDY 2 - A teaspoon of olive oil taken with the evening meal and a second teaspoon before bed.
FOLK REMEDY 3 - Take a mixture of malted milk, olive oil and hot water no less than an hour before bed.(This group was from Katherine A. Albert's book, Get a Good Night's Sleep.)
LAVENDER - A few drops of pure lavender oil placed on the pulsepoints of the wrist and forehead can be calming and helpful. This was reported in the New York Times as being especially effective with older people suffering from insomnia. However, you must use pure lavender oil from a good source. Cheap perfume or complex blends don't do it. Also try sniffing a little fragrant herbal "pillow" stuffed with lavender. Smells great and feels calming. We have three tiny, terry teddy bears stuffed with lavender (that we succumbed to buying for a ridiculous price, as they were cute and also actually on sale) - - and we like to take a sniff before turning out the light. Does it help? Perhaps. But definitely smells great and adds a pleasant touch to the bedtime ritual. We've also read that adding rose scent, and/or rosemary can help, too.
CELERY SEEDS - Inhaling the aroma from a little cloth bag filled with celery seeds is said to help you fall asleep.
CHOPPED ONIONS? - One book of natural remedies says to chop a yellow onion and put it in a glass jar with a lid which you then place near your bed - and every once in a while take a whiff - which is supposed to help. Maybe... - we haven't tried this one yet but we pass it on in case it has some appeal. (Interesting how raw onions also showed up in Katherine A. Albert's book, Get a Good Night's Sleep (see above).)
PUMPKIN - An old folk remedy says to eat pumpkin to cure insomnia - which is a rather pleasant remedy if you happen to like pumpkin pie, pumpkin muffins or even pumpkin soup - as we do. Pumpkin soup, in case you've never tried it, can be incredibly delicious. This remedy probably works (we have yet to try it) because pumpkin is a heavy-duty carbohydrate and that helps to promote the flow of serotonin to the brain - a key facilitator of sleep.

MITTENS AND SOCKS - This just in from CNN: Put on mittens and socks to help you get to sleep! This warms extremities - hands and feet - and has something to do with blood vessel dilation, body temperature and increased blood flow throughout the body. It's supposed to help and we believe it. We ourself have terrible trouble falling asleep if our hands or feet are cold - getting them warmed up definitely helps. We were once given nice, pink wool bed-socks as a gift - years ago, when we went to school in Vermont and before down comforters were in vogue - and they really helped back then. They had a little tie woven through the cuff - and were from England, as we remember it - where people truly need to warm up their toesies.
