Aspirin a Day, will it do you more harm then Good?

Some 43 million Americans do it every day: take a tiny aspirin to help prevent heart attacks and strokes. In fact, doctors have been routinely recommending the practice to older adults for years. But recently, experts have been questioning the aspirin-a-day regimen, concerned that this everyday miracle drug can pose serious risks, including bleeding in the brain and stomach.
The aspirin-a-day controversy erupted publicly in March when a 10-year study of nearly 30,000 adults ages 50 to 75 without known heart disease found that a daily aspirin didn’t offer any discernible protection. The group taking aspirin had cardiovascular disease at the same rate as those taking a placebo. Moreover, the study—published in the Journal of the American Medical Association—reported that taking a daily aspirin (100 mg) almost doubled the risk of dangerous internal bleeding.

And last year the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force—a panel of medical experts—issued new guidelines for patients, recommending only those at risk for heart attacks or strokes should take a daily aspirin. Risk factors include having high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes, as well as being overweight.
The panel also recommended that people over 80 not take aspirin at all because of bleeding risk.
For the first time, the panel also broke down its advice by gender, recommending against daily aspirin use in women under 55 and men under 45.
Is it right for you?

So, should you take a daily aspirin or not? The answer is not quite as simple as doctors previously thought. Aspirin, they say, can still be a lifesaving drug, but it’s not for everyone.
For reasons researchers don’t fully understand, aspirin seems to provide different benefits for men and women.

In men, aspirin can prevent heart attacks but seems to have no effect on strokes, says Michael LeFevre, M.D., a member of the task force that wrote the new guidelines and a professor of family medicine at the University of Missouri. Conversely, he says, aspirin appears to help women avoid strokes but not heart attacks.
The new recommendations suggest that aspirin will be most beneficial to:
men between 45 and 79 who have a high risk for heart attacks;

women between 55 and 79 who are at high risk for strokes.
Drawbacks

Aspirin, which has been around for more than 100 years, is a cheap, easy, effective way to control pain and inflammation. In 1989, when a major study revealed that a small dose could reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack by preventing blood clots, doctors began recommending that their older patients take a low dose of aspirin, 81 mg, every day.
“Aspirin is a lifesaving medicine in patients with established cardiovascular disease,” says Jeffrey Berger, M.D., a cardiologist at New York University who has studied the use of aspirin. But, he warns, it does come with some real drawbacks.
Aspirin has been linked with chronic ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and earlier this year scientists reported that people who took aspirin regularly were more likely to suffer from hearing loss.

Weird Diseases

HypertrichosisHypertrichosis, sometimes called “Human Werewolf Syndrome”, is characterized by excessive hair growth. It is generally only a cosmetic problem, and though it is exceptionally rare, patients can live relatively normal lives.

Capgras DelusionThe Capgras delusion (or Capgras syndrome) is a rare disorder in which a person holds a delusion that an acquaintance (typically someone close) has been replaced with an imposter. This delusion can be so strong that they may actually attack the loved one.

Alice in Wonderland SyndromeIndividuals with this strange syndrome will incorrectly perceive the sizes of things: from objects, to animals, to parts of their own body. Their hands may appear enormous to them, while a horse will appear to be the size of a cat.

Old Folks Remedies on Carpal tunnel syndrome

150 MG od Vitamin B-6

suggested by Barbara
I had a burning, numbing sensation in my right hand, and was sent to a specialist who told me to use 150 MG of B-6 for 3 weeks and give him a call and let him know how I was doing. I called him and told him that some of the pain and numbness was gone, and he told me to cut back to 100 MG, and that I was going to get better. That was 18 years ago, and thank the Lord I have been pain free for that many years

Japanese mint oil

suggested by Riki
I am a massage therapist and one of my common tools is Japanese mint oil (alot of therapists will sell this). Apply to the wrist in the morning and cover with a warm wet compress for 5 minutes to loosen the area, and apply to the wrist and cover with a cold wet compress in the eveining to alleviate inflamation. I have carpal tunnel from work, and this works like a char

Carpal Tunnel

suggested by Elizabeth
Is caused by damage or irritation to the vertebrae of the neck and top thoracics. Find someone who can alleviate these and it will disappear as if by magic. The top thoracics are the most difficult to adjust because they are usually calcified and resistant to movement. Deep massage or a decalcification treatment would help also.

Bowling brace, Carpel Tunel

suggested by Julie
Wear a bowling brace to protect when sleeping and when doing intensive or heavy work and take B6 (with B complex, of course, never take a single B without B complex also.) Some prefer a medical brace...see what works best for you. Having the stabillizing plate on the top of your wrist is easier to work with...some bowling braces have a plate on the top and bottom in pockets so one or the other can be removed
try this if you begin noticing sympoms

suggested by Nicole
I am a medical student and we were taught about this in our diseases class. My teahcher said that if you begin to get the symptoms of carple tunnel or just some wrist pain, try to watch how you sleep. If you sleep with your wrists tucked in towards you or bent in any way, this could also cause carple tunnel. this is easily corrected if you pay attention to how you position your wrists. try to keep them straight, not bent in anyway, even if bent is more comfortable. this reduces the strain on your wrist and will help you to avoid carple tunnel. try to keep your wrist straight most of the time, do not let them be bent for long periods, like the waitress did by carrying trays on her hand with her one hand. this is not only the pressure from her wrist being bend too long repeatedly, but the wait of all the food and stuff on her trays.Hope this helps!

i started taking glucosamine chondroitin, which is a joint lubriant. This helped me a lot. I also started wearing a magnetic bracelet. What a difference..try it...

An Injury that almost destroyed my life...

suggested by Adriena
I had/have carpal tunnel syndrom. This first began in my left hand and progressed to my left elbow (giving me tennis elbow), left shoulder and later my right hand and elbow. I only thought it could come from over using a computer...I was wrong. At the age of 19 I began feeling a tingling sensation in my hand...I've been a waitress for a long time....I wore some wrist supports. That helped for about a year. Then my job became unbearable.  Later on thru the year, I began avoiding my job. Pain had strickened me. Because this had came from my working , I had to follow procedure for worker's comp. Constant visits to my doctor, cortizone shots, wrist splits and weeks of occupational therapy helped very little. The problem even worsened due to me being unable to use my left hand and elbow. My right hand was my only way of getting around. I needed help with putting on bras, clothes, washing up, eating, cutting and opening my medication. The medication Naproxen or Naprosyn felt like it was killing me. It did more damage to my stomach than relieve pain in my arms and hands. DON'T EVER TAKE THAT STUFF! It's okay in Alieve. That wasn't the best idea the doctor gave me either. I couldn't work anymore. I went 4mths without pay. I begged other people for money for survival. My job had no mercy or gave any compensation. Over $4000 later, My final solution came when I began taking One-A-Day for women and drinking vitamin water. Vitamin's B6 and B12 saved me and gave me some strength back. Also, my sister brought me a memory foam pillow that aided my shoulder pain when I slept. Maybe therapy will help now...I can finally lift 10lbs again!!! Because I'm a college student, I have low income, those months of decreased pay, doctor bills and no pay left me with a lot of debt...I'm still working to pay that off. Now at 21, prayer is all I can do...and notify everyone that being a waitress can be a dangerous occupation. Till this day...I've received nothing but pain and debt. My feelings are hurt because I was on that job for 3 yrs and 7mths before I quit. A year of being a hostess @ $7/hr wasn't getting me by. I was forced to move and get taken care of by someone else...knowing I couldn't work. I hope you reading this will inspire you to take your vitamins and maintain proper nutrition and stay prayerful...The battle is not yours. Special thanks...Melanie J. and Sharon M.  for helping me....family and friends for supporting me as much as you could.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

suggested by Wendy
Have a massage therapist work on you. The muscles that are impinging on the median nerve can be worked on & tension released in that area. Unless there are special circumstances, surgery is not the best answer. Ask your doctor will you have full strength in that wrist & will the pain go away & stay away after surgery. Their answers will probably be no. There are other routes to take. Make sure your doctor is telling you about them. I know of many people who have had massage therapy instead of surgery & are much better or don't have it anymore...all without surgery
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

suggested by Rekha
I have carpal tunnel syndrome for almost fifteen years. Never had surgery but everytime I had chiropractic treatment for neck and spine problem my hands heald. I stopped having treatment and do whatever light work I can do. My symptoms have advanced to the point where my fingers, especially thumb gets dislocated and cause severe pain to the point where I have to scream. It can happen to any of the thumb, index and middle finger. I also have tendonitis so I have problem with all the fingers. Also due to the the nerve compression in the C7 I have pain in my shoulders. I feel as if my both arms are too heavy for my shoulders to carry. I am not obesed. I weigh 100lbs. I am writing this so those who have a severe form of CTS will know what can happen to them after many years. I don't think there is any cure but just by giving hands a rest and do sedentary work, if there is any. I paint at my own pace and surf on the internet.
Carpal tunnel syndrome

suggested by Fil
I was operated on. This happened before I was diagnosed the calcific bursitis, of which I told you about . But my hands never went back to what they used to be, that is the complete feeling on the tips of my fingers has not returned completely. I go to chiropractice regularly and I found every time my back is straightened out and the "knots" on, around and under my shoulder blades are dealt with, my hands get back to normal. The median nerve on the arm may also hurt as if you had a bad bruise. When it is massaged on the spot it hurts the most, in the direction it runs there may be a feeling of something getting unstuck, then the hand gets back to normal. But I am still convinced it has to be treated as a whole: the inbalance of trace elements, the spine must be straight and the muscles in your body need tuning. The reason I am submitting my experience and my views is in the hope that those who know a lot more than I, who only know from experience, may take my information seriously enough to look into it, with an open mind. The solution to any problem in life can only be found with openmindedness, by looking at knowledge scattered world wide. It does not matter where a good idea comes from and only the conjunction of global knowledge can lead to solving whatever problem..                                                                                                                                             Lilyruths"This and that friendly cottage" Pets welcomed. Get rid of a Zit (PIMPLE) overnight

When you're trying to get rid of zit, my recommendation is that you do not pop them. The reason is, the pus that is typical for zits can spread during popping causing the infection to spread or worsen.

Ingredients mentioned in this treatment to get rid of zit are active yeast and tea tree oil. Active yeast is recommended for oily skin types because it does a great job absorbing the grease and grease or extra oil is what clogs the pores and causes the formation of zits in the first place.
Tea tree oil is often used to get rid of zit and also to treat acne. Tea tree oil is a powerful antiseptic that cleanses the skin thoroughly and reduces an ongoing infection.

Overnight Acne Treatment to Get Rid of Huge Zits

Have you ever touched your skin and felt a zit forming beneath the surface? Or, have you ever felt a huge pimple growing on your skin getting full of pus, but you "knew" that you could not squeeze it?

Well there is an overnight remedy that will help you draw out that pus-filled pimple. Here goes:

Ingredients:

Essential tea tree oil (Essential eucalyptus oil will work as well)

Active yeast

Surgical tape and a cotton square or a large bandage

Note: Perform this treatment at night time or just before you go to sleep.

Step 1:

Cleanse your skin with a mild soap.

Step 2:

Saturate the cotton square or the cotton part of the bandage with the essential oil.

Step 3:

Pour a one-half a teaspoon of active yeast over the center of the cotton square. Tap down the yeast pellets to help them cling to the essential oil but do not mix the oil and yeast together.

That's because you want the oil and yeast to mix overnight to create a reaction that makes the pus "rise" out of your skin.

Step 4:

Now place the oil and yeast bandage or cotton square directly over your pimple. Use the tape to secure the oil and yeast to your skin.

Step 5:

Leave the bandage on over night. In the morning your pimple should be completely free of pus and gone.

Tips:

Obviously, this method is not ideal for getting a case of acne under control. This method is best for one or two isolated but HUGE ZITS. Though the technique is cumbersome, it does work. Just make sure that your bandage completely closes the oil and yeast over your pimple.

*The larger or more pus-filled your pimple is, the larger your bandage should be. Overnight, pus will seep out of your skin and into the cotton square. Make sure you have enough cotton to absorb the evacuating pus.Source: The Web

Old Folks Remedies--Stop Excessive Under-Arm sweating

Those of you who suffer with excessive underarm sweating know how difficult it is to not be able to wear what you want, to worry non stop about those sweat marks... Well, there are ways to deal with excessive underarm sweating naturally by using common ingredients...

Causes of excessive sweating

Axillary Hyperhidrosis, or excessive underarm sweating can have many causes. Sometimes, the cause is neurological. Sometimes, metabolism goes haywire and causes the sweat glands to produce more than usually. Often, people find themselves covered in sweat when the weather is humid and hot (I can relate, being in Georgia!). Stress and nervousness prompt the sweat glands to go into high production. Whatever the cause is, you need to consult a dermatologist to determine what your problem is.

There are several options you could resort to: antiperspirants, botox, and surgery. But, why not try and deal with this problem naturally by using some of these home remedies:

Baking soda

Baking soda is a base that returns the skin's pH to normal. To help prevent sweating, apply some baking soda on your armpits after taking a shower. Baking soda regulates the skin's pH but also helps kill the excess bacteria that can cause body odor.

Vinegar

Not only it unglues the bond that holds the dead skin cells together, its acids again help the skin in regulating its pH. Apply it on clean skin a few times a day.

Citrus fruits

Lime or lemons are acidic. They are also astringents, meaning they shrink the pores which in turn reduces sweating. Citric fruits help cleanse the skin and eliminate bacteria causing the odor.

To use it, cut a lemon (or lime) in half and rub it against the skin. Again, make sure you take a shower beforehand.

Finally, take showers often and wear cotton based clothes.

Discover the amazingly simple method to combat sweat in less than 2 weeks! 100% guaranteed!

It Doesn't Matter What You've Already Tried ...You Can Lower Underarm, Hand, Face, Foot and Overall Sweating By As Much As 95%.

No expensive cremes, injections, and surgery. Natural approach with natural, readily available ingredients.

Stop sweating and start living...

Have no Sex and live to be 107 years old

A 107-year-old Hong Kong villager, who still enjoys an occasional smoke, has attributed his longevity in part to decades of sexual abstinence, a newspaper reported “I don’t know why I have lived this long,” Chan Chi — one of Hong Kong’s oldest people — was quoted as saying in the South China Morning Post during an annual feast for the city’s elders.“Maybe it has to do with the fact that I have lived a sex-less life for many years — since I was 30,” said Chan, a widower whose youthful bride perished during the Japanese invasion in World War Two.Chan, from Hong Kong’s less built-up New Territories hinterland, was pictured looking sprightly and eating heartily at the banquet.A former chef, he said a low-fat diet and regular dawn exercises had helped him fight off the ravages of old age...

Kitchen Cures to help cure what ailes you

When you're feeling run down or ill, especially during these hoidays forget spending a fortune on over-the-counter drugs: healthy food is the safest medicine money can buy. Good quality foods have countless benefits and none of the side-effects of synthetic drugs. This is because foods are broken down by the body's metabolism, and their special components are used in different ways to maintain health.

Long term, we know that adding the right ingredients to our diet (such as garlic, which is rich in antioxidants) helps prevent chronic illnesses such as heart disease and cancer. And some foods, like potatoes, honey and oats, even have healing properties that can bring instant relief to ailments.

Ancient kitchen cures
The earliest records of kitchen pharmacy go back 5,000 years. The ancient Egyptians used herbs, nuts, spices and other foods as remedies for health and aids to beauty - the most celebrated being Cleopatra, who famously bathed in milk and honey.

Plant medicine was virtually the only medicine available until the sixteenth century, when chemicals began to replace herbal cures. Today, we've gone full circle, and modern scientific research tends to confirm what ancient civilisations already knew: food has powerful medicinal properties.

First-aid food
You can transform food into first aid with common supermarket ingredients. Teas, soups, tinctures, gargles, baths, compresses, juices, steam treatments, massage oils, medicinal honeys and syrups can all be easily made at the kitchen table.

Old Folks Remedies- How to conceal your Acne while it heals

We all know less is best when it comes to makeup for acne-prone skin. But there are times when you feel the need to conceal your breakouts. A few simple makeup tricks can help minimize the look of your acne while you're waiting for it to heal.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: Twenty minutes or less
Here's How:
Start with a cleansed face. Thoroughly cleanse your face to remove excess oil, and apply a light moisturizing lotion. Moisturizing helps diminish the look of dryness or peeling that sometimes occurs with acne treatments.

Apply your base makeup. If desired, apply your liquid or cream-to-powder based makeup now. Put on your base makeup using light strokes to avoid irritating breakouts. If you use mineral makeup, apply it at step 5.

Apply a green concealer to any red breakouts. Here's a little color theory 101: Opposite from red on the color wheel is green, which means red and green cancel each other out. Dab green concealer (available wherever makeup is sold) on breakouts to tone down the angry red color. Do not rub; rather, pat gently with your finger or clean makeup sponge to blend. The green color should be blended out thoroughly.

Apply concealer in your skin tone. Dot concealer over any areas covered by the green concealer. Concealers in pots or tubes give better coverage than stick-type concealer. Pat gently to blend.
Choose a concealer that matches your skin tone, or one that is just slightly darker. Darker colors recede, making larger breakouts appear smaller.

Lightly dust entire face with powder. Translucent, or loose powder sets the concealer and gives the skin a matte appearance without adding extra color to the face. They also help absorb oil throughout the day. Mineral makeup can be used in place of translucent powder, if preferred.

Tips:
For more staying power and better coverage, let the concealer set for five to 10 seconds after application and before blending.
Be certain to thoroughly remove all makeup you've applied before going to bed for the night.
What You Need:
Makeup sponge or applicator
Liquid or cream-to-powder makeup
Green-based concealer liquid or cream
Concealer cream in your skin tone
Translucent or loose powder in your skin tone
Drink eight glasses of water every day and keep your Acne at bay.. This helps your body keep clean. Lilyruths"This and that friendly cottage" Pets welcomed.
