Very nice information and much I agree with. I recently went to a family doctor regarding a cosmetic type of surgery. Doctors have always made me nervous and of course the first thing they did was take my blood pressure. It registered at 165/120!

I am 32 years old, and was 5'10" and 235lb at the time of reading. First thing Doc said was maybe you should be on drugs. Now I took this with a grain of salt (no pun) and assumed the reading was probably high and not entirely accurate. However it got me thinking!

I will be the first to admit that the last 7 years I have not taken care of myself well. Too much fast food, salt, alcohol, smoking and a low activity networking position along with stress.

Concerned with the blood pressure reading I came back to Chicago and spent countless hours researching blood pressure. Bought a home monitor and starting taking readings. Though I had felt the doctor's office reading was excessively high and innacurate, many home readings confirmed elevated level (140-150/90-100).

Just a few of the steps I incorporated into my healing process.

1) All fast food removed from diet. I am convinced I was salt sensitive or was just ingesting entirely too much. Blood pressure dropped considerably after a couple weeks after removing fast food poison and processed meals (Stouffers, Boston Market etc) from diet.

2)Alcohol and coffee removed completely.

3) Exercise 1 hour per day. I walk late at night with IPOD. Join a gym for 20 bucks a month is the best investment one can make.

4) Lots of yogurt and non fat milk. Make sure you get your calcium and Vitamin D.

5) Lots of Tomato juice. I grind garlic into the juice using blendor. One 8 ounz glass of campbells low salt Tomato Juice provides almost 1/3 of necessary daily potassium.

6) Lots of grapefruit juice. Lots of vegetables, I like frozen peas and lima beans. Fruit important. I prefer lemons and limes.I drink V8 fusion as well, though it does have a lot of sugar.

7) Flaxseed and lots of pumpkin seeds.

8) Lots of Oatmeal with honey. Lots of seafood. Shrimp and Salmon mostly.

9) 20 cups of water per day, apple cider and balsamic vinegar (I just drink it straight and love it, green tea and Cocoa. Not crap cocoa but organic sugar free. Try this:

10) Magnesium, iron, choline, copper, and fish oil supplements. I have supplements for almost everything but these things I watch closley.

11) This may sound silly but if you smoke, get rid of additive cigarettes. I switched to non additive roll your own American Spirit. Though they deliver more nicotine, they burn slower so you smoke less. The difference is amazing. All those additives burning together are killing you. Quitting smoking altogether should be the ultimate goal though.

All together, I have lost 22 pounds in 90 days. Down to about 212 lbs right now.

Blood pressure has dropped from the 145-150/90-100 range that home readings were consistently giving to a consistent 115-125/75-85! I am hoping the further reduction of weight will prove even further beneficial.

Much advice about dropping blood pressure found on the net and within your blog is absolutely accurate. It was for me anyway!

Some good sites I used to help change diet and attitude, and which are very informative.
